Although Cork the muskrat is short and likes to find things and Fuzz the possum is tall and likes to keep things, the pair remain best friends even after Fuzz finds Cork's lost stone and decides to keep it.
As best friends Cork, a muskrat, and Fuzz, a possum, try to catch a mysterious floating yellow object, Fuzz eagerly keeps taking action while Cork cautions him to wait a moment first.
Cork and Fuzz wake up knowing the day is special but not why, and when they finally find a quiet place to think about it, singing a festive song as a bell jingles and snow falls on a sparkling pine tree, they realize that their friendship makes every day special.
When best friends Cork and Fuzz go to the pond to collect shiny stones, they happen upon a duck's nest just as the eggs are hatching and Fuzz, who is wearing a feather from his collection, is collected by the mother duck.
"Simple text and full-color photography introduce beginning readers to muskrats. Developed by literacy experts for students in kindergarten through third grade"--
Once upon a time there were two muskrats who lived in a cabin near a big old river. Mr. Muskrat dreamt of catching enough fish to make them rich; Mrs. Muskrat was happy if they caught enough for a good supper. Then, one day, they reel in a giant golden catfish who promises to grant their wish if they set him free. The two muskrats agree to let the fish off the hook and he does keep his word . . . but in a most unexpected and magical way.
